Gail Spitzenberger is beginning her sixth year as the Director of Special Education for the Burlington Area School District. Spiteznberger earned a Master of Science Degree in Communicative Disorders from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 1981 and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Communicative Disorders from Marquette University in 1979. She obtained her Director of Pupil Services License in 2006 from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and holds a Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech Language Pathology from the American Speech Language Hearing Association.
Prior to accepting her current position, Spitzenberger was a Cross Categorical Program Support Teacher for the Racine County School Office serving all school districts in Racine County for 13 years. She was a Speech/Language Pathologist for the Racine County School Office from 1986-1993 and held a similar position for the Southern Wisconsin Center in Union Grove from 1982-1986.
Spitzenberger is a member of the Administrative Cabinet, responsible for the Student Services Team, which includes all school counselors, social workers, and psychologists, oversees the cooperative transition program known as the PAC House, and coordinates all IEP’s and 504 Plans for the district. She is a member of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, Autism Society of American, Autism Society of Southeastern Wisconsin, and Wisconsin Council of Administrators of Special Services.
