I am Dave Oaks and I teach art at Cooper and Winkler Elementary Schools. I am very excited to be starting my seventh year of teaching, my third year at Cooper and my second year at Winkler. I first taught for two years in Milwaukee Public Schools at Engleburg Elementary. After that I taught for two years in three Franklin public elementary schools. This will be my first opportunity to get to know students and families for a third year! I look forward to seeing students continue to grow and develop their skills and personalities.
I received my BFA from the University of Wisconsin Steven’s Point with a major in photography. I completed my art education certification at the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee. Now I’ve come back to where I started my educational journey, at Cooper school. I am pleased to now work alongside some of my former teachers to continue inspiring students.
I also run the Minecraft Clubs after school at Cooper and am hoping to start one at Winkler this year as well. Minecraft is a non-linear open world game about creating and exploring. Students find themselves building fantastic structures and designs that can be shared with and explored by other club members.
When I am not at school, I live in Milwaukee with my cat Wanagi. I spend my free time enjoying travel, strategy games, reading, camping, rock hounding, and other outdoor activities.
I am at Cooper School every morning as well as Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday afternoons. On Monday and Thursday afternoons I teach at Winkler. The best way to reach me is either to call the office at my school or email me.
