Hello, my name is Michelle Simecek and this will be my fourth year working at Cooper. I have been a Reading Specialist for the past twelve years now and thoroughly enjoy working with students to help them become lifelong readers.
I began my teaching career in Denver, Colorado where I worked as a classroom teacher in grades 1-3 for several years. I then relocated to the midwest with my family and taught for one year in Kindergarten, followed by eight years as a Reading Specialist. I also work for a couple of universities during the summer teaching courses in developmental reading to students pursuing their education certifications.
I have been married to my husband, Kevin, for 16 years and we have two children; Sierra is in seveth grade this year and Landon is in sixth grade. Outside of work, I am currently completing my doctoral degree through Edgewood College in Madison. Working on my dissertation takes up any free time I have outside of work. However, during summers, I enjoy spending time with my family and traveling. Just like everyone else, our kids keep us extremely busy between time at music lessons, the soccer field and the dance studio, so most evenings are spent simply running around like every other mom I know.
I am excited to be a part of the Cooper staff. I look forward to being a resource to the families at Cooper too, so if you have any questions in regard to reading, please stop by or send me an email!
