New For 2011-12 at Karcher
Addition of Advisor/Advisee Period
This year we will be starting an advisor/advisee period at Karcher Middle School. It will be the first thing in the morning from 7:20-7:40. We will use this time to build relationships, create a sense of community, keep tabs on academic progress, and deliver a character based curriculum. Several years ago we began a teacher led character program and since that time the culture and climate of the school has improved, including a decrease in referrals and an increase in student achievement levels. The advisory period will also give us a home base for students and an additional staff member students can go to with questions, issues, and celebrations.
School School Starts a Little Earlier
We have also changed the schedule slightly to begins school by 7:20 and end the day at 2:25. Students will be allowed to enter the building at 7:10 to get to their lockers, pick up breakfast, and report to their first hour advisory period.
Karcher Parent Advisory Group
We would also like to create an informal opportunity for parents to ask questions and have input beyond our previously established communication channels. We have had committees in the past, but they had specific tasks they were responsible for. This group will meet monthly and Mr. McGinley will outline upcoming events and will field questions. The first meeting will take place on September 22nd in the Karcher library at 6:00 PM. Please come with questions, comments, and suggestions.
New Face in the Office
We would also like to welcome the new Assistant Principal, Scott Schimmel, the new Assistant Principal at Karcher and Dyer. He will split time and responsibilities between the two buildings and will act as a transition liaison for all students. When you see him stop, say hello, introduce yourself and welcome him to Burlington.
As always if you have any questions about these changes or anything else at Karcher please give us a call.
