Students may not have more than four unexcused absences per quarter. Allowances are made for absences due to medical, funeral, court or other extenuating services. Once the student has three unexcused absences the home district will be notified. Once the student exceeds the allowable limit the student will be placed on home-based education for a minimum of one week.
Once a student has been placed on home-based education that student will have the opportunity to return back to school during that quarter if they complete two projects. The quality of the work must meet the acceptable standards of the staff. Students are allowed to come to school for assistance from staff either before or after the traditional student school day. Once the school day starts they will need to leave the building. If a student does not complete two projects while on home-based education they will return at the start of the next quarter.
A student may earn additional time by working on projects at school before the start or end of the tradition student school day. Increments of 30 minutes will be used. Every three hours accumulated extra time is equal to one school day.
If a student has two consecutive quarter of being placed on home-based education a meeting will be held with the student, parent, alternative high school staff and student's district school staff to review placement and determine if placement elsewhere would be more appropriate.
There are two incentive drawings each week. The drawings will be toward the end of the day on the last day school for the week.
Weekly Incentive- A student who has been present and on time all week will receive one ticket for the "weekly incentive" attendance drawing of the week.
Quarterly Incentive- If the student's name was not drawn forthe "weekly Incentive" their ticket will be placed in the "quarterly incentive" drawing which will take place right after the "weekly Incentive" drawing.
At the end of the quarter all tickets in the "quarterly incentive" drawing will be removed.
