Geometry: (3 parts)
Part 1: Understand congruence and similarity using physical models, transparencies, or geometry software
Portal transformation- Great challenge game that get kids to work on reflection, translation, rotation.
- This animated video addresses reflectional, rotational, and translational symmetry.
Part 2: Understand and apply the Pythagorean Theorem
- Great Jeopardy game that deals with questions about the Pythagorean Theorem
- Practice solviing using the pythagorean theorem
-Teaching the pythagorean theorem.
- Animated teaching of the pythagorean Theorem
Part 3: Solve real-world and mathematical problems involving volume of cylinders, cones, and spheres.
Another great lesson that we did this year was we collected 2 sets of 6 different cones, cyinders and spheres and then set up stations. The kids were taught the formulas and then given 3-4 minutes at each station to measure the necessary information and solve for the volume of that particular object. It was a great hands on lesson and the kids now really know what the height and radius of objects are.
