Request for Use of School Building & Properties
Burlington Area School District considers its buildings and grounds to be public assets to the community. The primary use of district spaces is to educate the community through 3K-12 curriculum and community education programs. When possible, the district will rent its spaces to non-district organizations.
UPDATE AS OF 12/9/20
Since the COVID pandemic started impacting schools in March, Burlington Area School District has prioritized reducing risk and keeping learning coherent. Over time, we’ve cautiously added programming beyond the school day because we recognize that extracurricular activities are also important. The district is now ready to return to opening district facilities on weekends, too.
- Effective January 9th, community education and outside user groups may reserve auditoriums, cafeterias, libraries, and gyms during the weekends (Saturday and Sunday from 8:00 am - 9:00 pm).
- All buildings remain closed from 9:00 pm to 6:00 pm, Monday thru Friday, to allow for proper cleaning.
- To reserve a space on or after January 9, 2021, please complete the Building Use Request form.
- Groups still need to follow COVID-19 Procedures and Guidelines.
We can agree that this is another good step in the right direction. Burlington Area School District will continue to monitor the situation, adhering to public health guidelines and risk mitigation recommendations, and will inform groups requesting space of any further updates.
UPDATE AS OF 10/26/20:
Since the COVID pandemic started impacting schools in March, the Burlington Area School District has prioritized reducing risk and keeping learning coherent. Overtime, we’ve been able to add back programming beyond the school day.
Through December 2020, we will continue to limit building use to weekdays between 6 a.m. - 9 p.m. This means buildings and grounds will be closed on weekends. We recognize that this will disappoint groups that have traditionally had weekend programs in district buildings in November and December.
This was a difficult decision because we value the opportunities for youth and the community. Two factors that weighed heavily on the decision were having to add weekend staffing and our area now being in the “very high risk” category (Central Racine County Health Department data). Staff members are starting to feel overwhelmed by the work each Covid exposure creates. The high number of positive cases as we enter winter and the holidays makes us hesitate to offer more extracurricular events in BASD schools at this time.
We hope that this abundance of caution allows everyone to stay healthy so we can offer more opportunities for our youth and community in BASD buildings in the second semester.
Thank you for your patience as we take one step at a time.
UPDATE AS OF 10/1/20:
The district has reopened spaces in phases to maintain healthy spaces for students and staff. Reopening started with the use of outdoor spaces and Community Ed programs July 6, then starting school August 17, and then launching school-sponsored activities and fall sport practices and events starting in September.
The next phase will be to accept scheduling requests for inside use. Unless circumstances prevent us from moving to this next phase, groups can begin submitting building use requests for space on or after October 1. The Covid-19 Procedures and Guidelines must be followed.
As requests are made, keep in mind that all buildings remain closed from 9:00PM to 6:00AM, Monday thru Friday, to allow for proper cleaning. All buildings are closed on the weekends with the exception of when a school-sponsored event is occurring.
Our priorities are to reduce risk for students and staff and to have instruction continue in-person in the school buildings. We hope that this abundance of caution allows everyone to stay healthy so we can offer more opportunities for our youth and community in BASD buildings in the near future.
Thank you for your patience as we take one step at a time to fully reopen our school buildings. Please feel free to contact Dan Bocock with any specific questions.
