ESSER III Plan
The American Rescue Plan (ARP) Act, the third federal COVID-19 relief law passed in March 2021, provides one-time funds for school districts through the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) III grant program.
The funds can help BASD support those impacted by the pandemic and help the district prevent the spread of COVID-19. This program is similar, but not identical to, ESSER I and ESSER II which were authorized under the previous two COVID-19 relief packages, in 2020.
Plans
We welcome community stakeholders to review these two plans. The plans were discussed publicly at the December 13, 2021 School Board meeting (link to video). Updates were shared with the school board on July 11, 2022, February 13, 2023, and July 10, 2023.
Grant Basics
The Burlington Area School District is expected to receive $3,436,703 in ESSER III funding. Funds may be used from March 13, 2020 through Sept. 30, 2024 to support the district's response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
What is the Money For?
Funds are intended to help safely reopen and sustain the safe operation of schools and address the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on students and staff. The Department of Public Instruction shares guidance on its website.
- Schools must use a minimum of 20% to implement evidence-based interventions to address learning loss.
- We must ensure that interventions respond to students’ social, emotional, and academic needs and address the disproportionate impact of COVID-19 on underrepresented student subgroups.
Feedback Survey
The Burlington Area School District invited Burlington Area School District stakeholders (community, families and staff) to share ideas and priorities for using the funds. We appreciate everyone who took the time to both understand what is being suggested and provided valuable feedback so we can best serve Burlington area students.
