Fitness Education Electives
FITNESS EDUCATION
Fitness Education is a required course for all Karcher students. The overall objectives are to develop a degree of physical strength, stamina, skill, and grace; to promote self-control as well as the ability to participate cooperatively with others as a team effort. It is hoped that the students will learn to value sportsmanship and develop a lifelong interest in physical fitness.
- Leading an active lifestyle
- Students will comprehend and apply the 5 components of fitness:
- Cardiovascular Endurance
- Muscular Strength
- Muscular Endurance
- Flexibility
- Body Composition
Students will identify and practice the FITT Principle:
- Frequency – Exercise 6-7 times per week
- Intensity – Train within your Target Heart Rate zone
- Time – Exercise for 60 minutes
- Type – Aerobic Exercise
- The Fitness gram is the WI DPI recommended fitness assessment and tracking tool that we use to collect data of fitness test results. This program provides individualized educational reports for both students and parents.
- Based on the results, students develop a plan to improve their fitness level
- Students will be tested 3 times per year to monitor their personal fitness level.
HEALTH
This course is required by state statute and must be taken by all seventh and eighth-grade students. The goal of this course is to make students aware of the importance and responsibility of their own physical health. Health units to be taught include nutrition, drugs, and human growth and development.
