Course Description
The purpose of the AP course in statistics is to introduce students to the major concepts and tools for collecting, analyzing and drawing conclusions from data. Students are exposed to four broad conceptual themes:
-
Exploring Data: Describing patterns and departures from patterns
-
Sampling and Experimentation: Planning and conducting a study
-
Anticipating Patterns: Exploring random phenomena using probability and simulation
-
Statistical Inference: Estimating population parameters and testing hypotheses
Students who successfully complete the course and exam may receive credit, advanced placement or both for a one-semester introductory college statistics course.
I highly recommend students use a TI-84 Plus family of calculator for this course with the most up-to-date operating system.
Textbook Information
So, why should anyone take AP Statistics? Here is a short video that attempts to sway you.
We will be using The Practice of Statistics 4th edition for this class. I will hand out supplementary material throughout the year. There are many great AP Statistics study guides available for purchase. Check the local bookstores for them. I will make recommendations in class about outside study guides.
