September Family Newsletter

2025-2026 School Year

Burlington High School Families,

We are off to a fantastic start to the school year! The building is full of energy as students settle into routines, get to know their teachers and classmates, and become familiar with daily schedules. These first few weeks are always an exciting time as new opportunities take shape and the school community comes together.

Tomorrow we have our first late start of the year, and we want to share a quick reminder: on late start days, classes begin at 8:50 a.m., and doors open at 8:30 a.m. Thank you for helping your student adjust to these changes - it’s all part of finding the rhythm that makes the school year run smoothly.

Communication remains an important part of our partnership. Please be sure to stay connected through ParentSquare for important updates and reminders. We also encourage students to get on StudentSquare so they can stay informed directly. More information on both tools is included below.

Outside the classroom, fall sports and activities are in full swing. It has been wonderful to see our student-athletes competing, our fans filling the stands, and our student leaders stepping up in so many ways. Whether it’s in academics, athletics, or the arts, our students are already showing what it means to be part of the BHS community.

Be sure to keep an eye on these monthly family newsletters as well - they’re a great way to stay up to date on what’s happening at BHS and learn about important events coming up.

Thank you for your continued support as we begin another year of learning, growth, and success together. We look forward to all that’s ahead in the months to come!

Warm Regards,

Amy Levonian, Principal
Bryce McCourt, Assistant Principal
Reid Oldenburg, Assistant Principal
Erik Sulik, Activities Director

September Late Starts

As a reminder, every other Wednesday, all BASD schools will have a late start. We will have 2 late starts this month: September 10th and 24th. The doors to the building open at 8:30am, and 1st period starts at 8:50am. You can find the BHS Bell Schedule here, which includes the schedule for late start weeks. For the complete listing of all late start days, please see the BASD Family Calendar 2025-2026.

Cell Phone Policy

BHS instated our Cell Phone Policy last school year, and we will continue enforcing it in the 2025-2026 school year. In order to improve student engagement in lessons, actively participating in discussions, and engaging in meaningful interactions with peers, cell phones will be prohibited during class and passing time. Cell phone use will only be allowed during lunch periods.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in continuing to support this policy!

Parent Square - New Communication Platform

You may have noticed our website has changed. As part of our continued work to improve communication with parents and the community we have shifted to a new platform for communication called ParentSquare, which, in turn also is the new company for our website.

Please CLICK ON THIS LINK to learn more about ParentSquare from a parent perspective as all communication from the district, schools, classroom teachers, coaches, club advisors, etc. will come though ParentSquare.

In the app, you can click "More" to access important Links including: Bell Schedule, Athletic Calendar, Service Learning Hours Form, Vehicle Registration Form, and various health forms.

The simplest way for students to receive ParentSquare notifications on their phones is through the app. They can download the StudentSquare app from their app store and log in with their ParentSquare credentials.

Be a Good Human

As was shared in the BASD Back to School Newsletter, the BBLC recently developed what is now called the Burlington Community Shared Values—five essential principles that reflect what we all want to see in our students, and in each other:

  • Be Prepared
  • Be Respectful
  • Be Logical
  • Be Involved
  • Be Resilient

These are not school district values alone—they are community values. They come directly from those who are hiring our graduates, mentoring our youth, and building the future of Burlington.

Because these values were defined by our community, our responsibility as a school district is to uphold them. These are the expectations that our business owners and civic leaders have asked us to instill in our students—and we are proud to do just that and will be reinforcing these values in every classroom and every school building. When we teach students to live out these values, we are not only helping them grow into successful adults—we are answering the call of our community to prepare young people who are ready to contribute and lead.

We know that real change takes more than words—it takes action, and it takes all of us working together. It’s about preparing our children to grow into strong, capable adults who will carry forward the character and values that have long made Burlington the proud, tight-knit community it is.

As a parent, we look forward to your support in this work as our mission is to inspire good humans and capable minds - together!

B-Squad: Operation Orange

B-Squad, also known as Operation Orange, is a group dedicated to fostering school pride, energy, and unity at athletic events and beyond. Our mission is to create a fun, welcoming, and spirited atmosphere where students come together to support our teams, classmates, and community. Members help organize themes, lead cheers, and bring the excitement that makes our student section the best in the league. Whether it’s painting signs, planning game-day traditions, or showing up loud and proud, we are here to represent our school with passion, positivity, and pride.

On Wednesday, August 20th, the B-Squad held a student-led pep assembly. Student leaders from the group taught cheers and reviewed proper etiquette at games. The group emphasized the importance of supporting our athletes and building spirit in the stands. The keynote speaker for the night was University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Head Baseball Coach, John Vodenlich. John is a Hall of Fame and National Champion during this time at UW-Whitewater. His message stressed the importance of character, leadership, and grit. Everyone in attendance received a B-Squad t-shirt donated by the Burlington High School Athletic Association and the Burlington Coaches Association.
