Every student counts. Every day counts.
On the third Friday of September, Wisconsin school districts take an official enrollment count. While this count provides an important snapshot of our schools, it also plays a role in determining how state funding is distributed to school districts.
That makes this day important—but it also reminds us of something bigger: attendance matters every day.
When students are at school, they are learning, connecting, building relationships, and developing the skills they need to be successful.
Being present helps students:
• Stay connected to their learning
• Build strong relationships with teachers and classmates
• Develop responsibility and good habits
• Take advantage of opportunities and activities
• Build the resilience and confidence to keep moving forward
The Third Friday Count is just one day, but good attendance is about every day.
When we say “Every Student Counts,” we mean that every student matters, every student belongs, and every day they are here is an opportunity to learn and grow. Accurate enrollment and strong attendance also help ensure our schools have the resources needed to support our students.
