Burlington Area School District's Building & Grounds Department provides a clean, safe, and healthy environment for learning to occur. We assist principals, teachers, and students to create a positive atmosphere for learning. A recent 10-year Facilities Plan has helped the district to prioritize larger capital projects. We have a commitment to keeping students safe and have been implementing school safety projects, some of which were funded through School Safety Grants awarded by Wisconsin's DOJ.

Indoor Environmental Quality Management Plan
The Burlington Area School District has an Indoor Environmental Quality Management Plan referred to as an IEQ Plan. This plan is intended to ensure a clean and healthy environment within the building. Should you experience health-related symptoms which you feel are related to the building, please fill out appendix A of the IEQ Plan and submit it to Jess Warren, BASD's IEQ Coordinator, at the district office.
Further, The Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act requires school districts to inspect their buildings for asbestos-containing building materials and develop, maintain, and update an asbestos management plan. Annual Asbestos Letter.
District Energy Reports
The district practices energy management and conservation using Siemens building automation system (BAS) to schedule the HVAC equipment during occupied and unoccupied times. In addition to systems management, there is a continuing effort by building occupants to practice energy conservation. The district is converting lighting to LED to reduce energy costs.
Fire Alarm Inspection Reports
All district buildings receive a thorough inspection in accordance with applicable national fire protection association standards. SimplexGrinnell completed its inspection in August 2018, finding no deficiencies in district buildings. To see the full report for any building, contact Jess Warren.
Safe Drinking Water
The Burlington Area School District maintains two high capacity wells suppling drinking water to Winkler and Lyons Center Elementary school buildings. These well systems are regulated by the State of Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR). The wells and the building distribution systems are inspected annually by the DNR for compliance. In addition to the inspections, the water supply is monitored by sampling the water for contaminants to include Coliform Bacteria, Nitrates, Volatile Organics, Inorganics, Synthetic Organics, Lead and Copper. Those sampling results are available for review at the DNR link for Winkler Elementary. For more information regarding water sampling please feel free to contact Jess Warren at 262-763-0210.
