Thomas Gilding is an English teacher, social studies teacher, writing teacher, and the General Manager of WBSD radio at Burlington High School. With over 39 years of involvement in education, through his teaching and educational writing responsibilities, Tom Gilding has won awards in teaching and writing in the state of Wisconsin. From Wisconsin CESA #2 Middle School Teacher of the Year, Kohl Scholarship State Finalist, and the Milwaukee Journal Wordsmith Writing Award, Mr. Gilding has been honored that his work and love of education have been noticed both in and outside of his district. Mr. Gilding is also a licensed 100-ton riverboat pilot and Mark Twain impersonator who travels around the country performing as the great American writer on riverboats, in convention halls, at libraries, and for state historic societies.
Tom Gilding loves his personal life with family, friends, and his cats, in a wooded acreage in rural Wisconsin, spending much of his time writing music and plays in his Mark Twain Study, which he build himself from plans of the original in Elmira, New York.
Tom Gilding shares Mark Twain's love of learning and teaching. He agrees with Twain who wrote, "If I have a passion for anything, it is to teach. It is noble to teach oneself, but it is still nobler to teach others. And, as far as I am concerned, it is a lot less trouble."
This year Mr. Gilding teaches English 11 (American literature and composition), Writing Skills, and Creative Writing.
