Health Starts at Home
Families are the front line in keeping their children healthy. Each student's health should be evaluated EVERY DAY before sending the student to school.
Feel sick* = Stay home
Even before Covid, we encouraged anyone experiencing symptoms (English / Espanol) of illness to stay home. Students and staff can return to school/work after being fever-free for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication and the symptoms are resolving, or if a medical professional makes an alternative diagnosis. A negative Covid test is recommended but not required for return to school/work.
Test Positive for Covid
Students or staff who test positive for COVID-19 should isolate for at least 5 days. If they are asymptomatic or symptoms are resolving and they have been fever-free for 24 hours, then they may return to school/work after Day 5 (on Day 6 with Day 0 being day of test or onset of symptoms). Please wear a mask for Days 6 - 10.
Notifications of COVID cases will be sent to families when there are clusters of cases or outbreaks so they can monitor. The district will not be contact tracing. Returning to our pre-Covid protocol, if there are a significant number of absences due to illness in a school, then the district may be forced to cancel school.
Masks
Masks will continue to be optional (not required). Anyone who wishes to wear a mask will be supported and allowed to wear a mask.
Immunization Records
Vaccination remains a leading public health prevention strategy. All school-age children are eligible to be vaccinated at this time. Please turn in any updates to vaccination status to the health aide at your school or to the district office.
Stay Healthy
All students and staff are encouraged to wash their hands frequently. Hand sanitizing stations are available throughout each school. Remember to cover coughs and sneezes (use elbows, shoulders, or upper arms) to avoid coughing or sneezing into your hands.
Become ill while at school
IF an individual becomes ill while at school, THEN go to the school health office. Be prepared to quickly pick up a child who becomes ill at school.
Covid Protocols
The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) announced updates related to their Covid protocols on August 11, 2022.
IF / THEN Scenarios:
IF any symptoms (English / Espanol), THEN stay home.
If Covid Positive
- Inform Jill Dreger, Director of Health Services (Email) and the school health aide.
- If symptoms: isolate at a minimum for 5 days. If on Day 6 symptoms have improved (fever free/vomit free for 24 hours without medication), return to school (mask recommended Days 6-10). If symptoms persist, continue isolation until symptoms improve (and fever free for 24 hours).
- If no symptoms: then return to school on Day 6 (mask recommended Days 6-10).
Vaccination Status:
Please share updates on immunizations and vaccinations with Director of Health Services Jill Dreger (Email). Here is a link to the district's Immunization Information.
Close contact with a positive case:
If an individual comes in close contact with someone who is Covid positive, the individual should monitor for symptoms and isolate if symptoms develop.
Shift to Virtual:
If staffing levels drop below what is needed for a school day - for any reason, including Covid - THEN the school will likely shift to virtual. If staffing or student absent rate is high due to any illness, THEN the school will be closed for a period of time.
Please contact the BASD’s Director of Health Services, Jill Dreger (262-698-3961) for any questions regarding an “OK to return” to school/work date after testing positive for Covid.
