Health Care Marketplace: The Health Care Marketplace is a new way to find quality health coverage. With one Marketplace application, you can learn if you can get lower costs based on your income, compare your coverage options side-by-side, and enroll. Many people will qualify for assistance to help pay for their health insurance through government subsidies.
The Health Insurance Marketplace Calculator provides estimates of health insurance premiums and subsidies for people purchasing insurance on their own in health insurance exchanges (or “Marketplaces”) created by the Affordable Care Act (ACA). With this calculator, you can enter your income, age, and family size to estimate your eligibility for subsidies and how much you could spend on health insurance. To determine if you are eligible for a subsidy, visit: http://kff.org/interactive/subsidy-calculator/.
The Marketplace will also tell you if you qualify for free or low cost coverage available through BadgerCare/Medicaid.
Open enrollment for the Marketplace begins November 1, 2020 and runs through December 15, 2020. Special enrollment is available with a qualifying life event (i.e. married/divorced, adding child, losing insurance).
Insurance plans in the Health Care Marketplace are offered by private companies and they all cover the same set of benefits called the essential health benefits. While all insurance plans are offered by private companies, the Health Care Marketplace is run by either your state or the federal government. You can compare plans based on price, benefits, and other features important to you before you make a choice. No plan can turn you away for a pre-existing condition.
EFFECTIVE JANUARY 1, 2014 - EVERYONE (with few exceptions) is required by law to have health insurance or pay a fine.
