English Teacher / Cross Country Email Phone: 262-763-0200 Mr. Nie's Website
My name is Matt Nie. I am a speech and media instructor at Burlington High School. In addition, I am a co-advisor for DRIVEN student leadership, a head Forensics coach, an Asst. Advisor for 89.1 WBSD radio, host of the weekly radio show Community Focus, a volunteer cross country running coach, a documentary filmmaker, and a proud father of three (ages 3, 6 & 8). I love helping students develop their own unique voice in writing, media, and in the spoken word. The level of creativity and enthusiasm my students possess is as inspiring as it is motivating.
As a speech instructor I help students face a primary fear-- that of public speaking. It is the number one fear people have, greater than the fear of death. Ultimately this fear must be confronted in order to land a job and become a key team player. The personal development and confidence students gain in completing a speech course (be it Basic Public Speaking or Advanced Public Speaking) is truly impressive.
The Burlington Area School District is a huge supporter of hands on communicative technology. We are only one of two schools were students can get hands on radio experience (setting them apart from others on job and college applications). In addition, we use cutting edge equipment to harness their thoughts on video in filmmaking courses- learning self promotion, media organization, and time management that can transfer to any career.
Taking advantage of all the speech and media courses offered at BHS allows students to be ready for the challenges ahead. I am commited to students getting the communication skills to obtain the career they want. No one will take their place because they were not good enough. They will emerge confidence communicators with cutting edge skills.
If you are a student, please see all these courses have to offer. If you are a parent, thank you for the opportunity to teach your children. Please feel free to contact me any time via email. We are all in this together and mutually benefit when learning is done right.
