Active COVID-19 Dashboard
The Burlington Area School District wants to be as transparent as possible about the health of students and staff. This COVID-19 Dashboard will reflect the number of confirmed active COVID-19 cases in our schools for staff and students.
Please promptly report positive cases to Jill Dreger, Director of Health Services. Here is a link to NEW Quarantine Guidelines effective December 9, 2020 (NOTE: the district requires the 10- or the preferred 14-day quarantine.)
Total COVID positive since the first day of school (January 4-January 15): 12

Re: Quarantine
BASD has worked with the Central Racine County Health Department to update its quarantine procedures. See these Quarantine Guidelines for details. The 7-day quarantine option does not seem feasible at this time due to the logistics required.
Quarantine and return to school and sports:
If a person is identified as a close contact to a positive COVID-19 case and need to quarantine:
- 14 day quarantine is preferred. The last day of contact with the COVID-19 positive person counts as day 0. Quarantine goes through day 14 and return to school and sports is day 15. Example: Date of Contact is Feb 1. Return to school and sports is Feb 16.
- 10 day quarantine is acceptable. The last day of contact with the COVID-19 person counts as day 0. Quarantine goes through day 10. Return to school may occur on day 11 as long as they have had NO symptoms. The student must continue to monitor daily for any symptoms, consistently use a mask, practice social distancing and avoid gatherings. Example: Date of Contact is Feb 1. Return to school is Feb 12.
When can the student athlete return to sports? Due to the need to social distance and avoid gatherings, if athletes choose to return to school using the 10 day quarantine the student athlete may return to school on day 11, however, they may not scrimmage or play in games until day 15. On days 11-14, the student athlete MAY be allowed to warm up and stretch with the team as long as masks are worn and 6 feet distance is maintained by teammates and coaches at all times. Individual skill work may also take place during practice assuming the student athlete wears masks and practices social distancing. If an entire team (level) is quarantined, days 11-14 described above may not apply. Example: Date of Contact is Feb 1. Return to school is Feb 12. Return to practice with restrictions is Feb 12. Return to scrimmages and games is Feb 16.
COVID-19 Communication
The Burlington Area School District works with the Central Racine County Health Department on each case, contract tracing, and necessary communication.
- Families will only receive an email from BASD with the letter from the CRCHD when a COVID-positive individual was in the school and caused other exposures or there is an exposure that results in quarantine. In other words, if an individual has been on quarantine or out ill, then receives a positive diagnosis but there are no school-related exposures then no letter is sent.
- Families of students will receive an email from Jill Dreger, Director of Health Services, if a student is identified as a close contact and required to quarantine.
- If the number of people needing to quarantine will disrupt in-person learning, families of students will receive an email from their principal or teacher about shifting to virtual learning.
Thank you for doing all you can to keep Burlington schools healthy. Please see the Health Services webpage and the Fall 2020 Health Information page for more details.
