Academic Decathlon
An academic team (teacher recommended) competes in several subject areas. Students with different GPA’s do compete in different subject areas. Scholarship opportunities are available. Interviews and certain GPA’s are needed. Meetings are twice a month. Contact Mrs. Verhagen if you are interested in joining.
Best Buddies
Best Buddies is the world’s largest organization dedicated to ending the social, physical, and economic isolation of the 200 million people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Our programs empower the special abilities of people with IDD by helping them form meaningful friendships with their peers, secure successful jobs, live independently, improve public speaking, self-advocacy and communication skills, and feel valued by society. Anyone can join but there is an application process to complete. The club meets once a month. Contact Mrs. Lukenbill, Mrs. Tenhagen, or Angie Thole for more information.
Book Club
Book club exposes students to other avid readers and gives them an opportunity to discuss what they are reading and receive book recommendations. Meetings are once a month for about an hour. Contact Mrs. Jannene for more information.
DRIVEN
DRIVEN is a student leadership group committed to improving the school and the community. It is a class for credit that meets during lunches. Students apply to be part of DRIVEN at the beginning of May. They must attend a week-long summer training and present to freshmen throughout the year. FBLA
The purpose of FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) is to provide additional opportunities for high school students in business and/or business-related fields to prepare for careers in business through academic competitions, leadership development, and educational programs. The club meets monthly after school. Optional community service, fundraising, and field trips. Additional fees may apply. Contact Mrs. Pruszka about registering.
FFA
FFA is one of the largest national youth leadership organizations in the country. Our members gain hands-on experience through competitions, leadership roles, and community services work based in agriculture. With more than 20,000 members in Wisconsin alone (75% not having an agriculture background!), anyone in grades 7-12 can join. We have many traveling opportunities throughout the year and plenty of events. Meetings are once a month on Monday for 1-2 hours. Additional State and National Membership dues of $35. Forensics
What is Forensics? Speaking for Competition? 4N6? Huh? Forensics is the art and science of competitive public speaking across high schools and universities in the U.S. It merges interpretive speaking (theater, acting, poetry, etc.) with public speaking (persuasion, demonstration, special occasion, etc) It’s also a Team of Positive People who forensicate! Homecoming
This fall club plans and organizes all the events for Homecoming week. Any motivated student can join. Look for announcements or contact Mrs. Schilleman.
Ice Fishing Club
This club is dedicated to offering students the opportunity to engage in ice fishing. We hold meetings and practices during the week to help students learn how to ice fish and practice their skills. Over the course of the season, the team travels to optional tournaments to compete with other high school fishing teams. The club is for all levels from the person wanting to learn more about the sport to being an experienced outdoorsman. See Mr. Hendricks for more information.
Key Club
Key Club is an international student-led organization that provides its members with opportunities to provide service, build character, and develop leadership. Club meetings are every other Thursday after school from 2:45-3 pm. Service projects occur 1-2 times a month at various times. $15 yearly dues are required. For more information, check out the Key Club bulletin board outside room 128 or contact Ms. Madell.
National Art Honor Society
The National Art Honor Society is open to all students who have a passion for art, even if you are not in an art class. NAHS provides opportunities for art making, leadership, college and career preparation, and community service. Students must have a “B” or better average. The club meets a few times a month during advisory starting in the Fall. $5.00 additional dues required. Contact Ms. McCanna or Ms. Gehrand for more information.
National Honor Society (NHS)
NHS’s goal is to promote community and school awareness to help create a positive environment and enrich the experiences of citizens and students in Burlington. Meetings are monthly. Must be a nominated Junior or Senior with a GPA of greater than 3.7 with at least one Honors or AP class. Students can apply with Ms. Hammerstad or Ms. Yanke.
SAFE (Social Acceptance for Everyone)
SAFE welcomes and supports students from diverse academic, social, emotional, and cultural backgrounds. We embrace diversity and promote respect for ourselves and others. We are working toward building a school culture that values the different knowledge, skills, and experiences each student brings to the classroom in hopes of creating a more just, humane, and empathetic environment. Ski & Snowboard Club
Learn how to ski or snowboard. The club card includes one free lesson, after that there is a fee. You can bring your family on the club nights, and they can pay the same student rates! Students must attend 3 of the 6 ski club nights to join. The club typically meets 6 Fridays in the Winter months. (Two (15) min meetings in the fall) Additional fees will apply for Ski club card, lift tickets, and rentals. Contact Mr. Dennert for Mrs. Dennert for information.
Student Government
This club serves the student body by running blood drives, organizing graduation, class rings, the student handbook, and more to make this school a better place. The club typically meets weekly on Wednesdays for about 20 min. Show up to join! Contact Mr. Dow for more info.
Teen Voice
Teen Voice gives the teens of BHS the opportunity to sit and have a voice on 11 different community boards, committees, and the Common Council for the City of Burlington. There are other opportunities as well that change each year for teen leadership. Please contact Christina Converset for more info.
Tabletop Game Club
Come and explore the wonderful world of tabletop gaming and strategy. The club is open to veteran table gamers to students with no experience. All are welcome. The game choice changes depending on what students want to play. They range from Magic the Gathering, Pokemon, Settlers of Catan, Munchkin, Yugioh, Dungeons and Dragons, and more. Contact Mr. Begle for more information. The club meets Tuesdays from 2:35 PM - 4:00 PM in Room #270.
WBSD
WBSD has been a community-run radio station for over 40 years that is on the dial and on the web at wbsdfm.com. Students serve as radio deejays, sports play-by-play commentators, music archivists, and technical support specialists. This is a yearlong commitment students can start at any point with individual training and/or completion of the Broadcasting class. We meet during free study hall for after school for a radio shift. World Languages Club
The BHS World Languages Club offers activities for students who appreciate, want to learn, and want to experience various aspects of different cultures. It is not necessary that students speak a second language, but we will offer opportunities for students to expand their knowledge and vocabulary in many ways. Culture + fun = BHS World Languages club. Our club meets monthly with the addition of extra cultural activities throughout the school year. Contact Señorita Twohig for more information.
Yearbook
The club assists the Yearbook class with developing the yearbook. Students create attractive layouts; incorporate journalism skills such as interviewing, writing, and reporting; and create advertising campaigns. The club meets at least once a week. Contact Mrs. Pruszka for info.
