Course Title: Physical Education - Individual Activities

Course Description
Upon completion of Physical Education – 9, students are able to take individual activities as a graduation requirement or elective course.
- Individual activities course offering is designed to offer students the opportunity to experience a variety of individual lifetime activities such as golf, archery, bowling, tennis, badminton, pickleball, weightlifting, fitness walking, ultimate Frisbee, aerobics/Pilates/yoga, and fitness gram testing. Both course offerings focus on improving the students’ cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength, and overall flexibility through a wide range of stretching, warm-up, and physical activity on a daily basis.
Grading
The student’s grade will be broken into two categories:
- Daily Breakdown (DBK) - 70% of total grade
- Knowledge Level (KL) - 30% of total grade
Daily Breakdown (DBK)
The students have the opportunity to earn 3 points/day based on the following:
- Prepared for class (Examples: on time, proper attire, participation in warm-up, etc.)
- Respect (Examples: controlling emotions, cooperative, etc.)
- Effort (Examples: reaching target heart rate, working at maximum ability, etc.)
- “Fitness Days” may be worth 10 points/day
- It is imperative that students are responsible, respectful, and cooperative for safety reasons! Failure to be respectful and cooperative with classmates and/or the instructor will result in removal from class to the ISSR and an automatic 3-point deduction for the day.
- No electronic devices such as a cell phone, iPad, iPod, mp3 player, earbuds, headphones, etc. will be allowed! Failure to cooperate with this rule will result in immediate confiscation and an automatic 3-point deduction for the day.
Knowledge Level (KL)
The student’s knowledge level will be based on the following:
- FitnessGram tests (pre- and post-)

Non-dresses
A non-dress means the student receives 0 points for the day and is unable to participate in the class activity. Non-dresses cannot be made up and will be recorded as a permanent 0 in the grade book. All students who non-dress will be expected to walk for the entire class period. Any refusal to walk could result in a disciplinary action. The student may be sent to the ISSR for the class period at the discretion of the teacher.
Absences
For any absence beyond 7 throughout the semester the student will be downgraded ½ of a letter grade.
Make-ups
Students will be given the opportunity to make up any absence after school on select days throughout the semester. Students must report to the gym no later than 2:45 pm. Absences may not be made up during a study hall or lunch.
Medical
Students will handle medical excuses with the cooperating teacher on an individual basis depending on the length of their condition. A parent note will excuse the student for up to 2 days. If the medical condition extends beyond 2 days a doctor’s excuse is needed and/or a BHS Physical Education Modification Form needs to be completed. Forms are available on your instructor’s website.
